Edpyme Alterntiva was born in 1992 from a Chamber of Commerce of Lambayeque program and the BID (Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo) to support the growth of micro and small enterprises. Today, the institution finances more than 40,500 micro-entrepreneurs through its 30 agencies and 5 information points. The agencies are located in the North of Peru in the Chiclayo region, where 50% of the customers live in rural areas and 44% of them are women. The average disbursed loan is EUR 1,139.

Managed by professionals with extensive experience in the banking and financial sector, it is also managed by personalities with real expertise in microfinance and a good social commitment. With 46% of exclusive customers, its portfolio shows an average growth of 17% in recent years with a quality among the best in the sector.

Edpyme Alternativa exclusively offers individual loans diversified under a range of products adapted to the needs of its clients. They can have a certain flexibility for the payment method according to the client’s activity. Now its status allows it to offer credit products without having to collect savings. One of its products, called Kiva, allows the MFI to reach the most vulnerable targets through small credit amounts and without collateral. Its strategy is to become more involved in rural areas to promote greater financial inclusion, with a social impact and where there is less presence of other MFIs.
