ADISA – Guatemala

ADISA – Asociación para el Desarrollo Integral de San Antonio Ilotenango – was created in 1991 by a group of farmers who needed financing to buy materials to support their farming activities. 14 years on and ADISA is now a major player in the local economy, providing financing, predominantly for commerce and housing, in the mountainous region of San Antonio Ilotenango.

ADISA provides financial and non-financial assistance with the ultimate aim of improving the quality of life of rural populations. 81% of its customers are located in the countryside. As part of its non-financial assistance programme, the MFI has established an educational institute for indigenous communities, scholarships for disadvantaged children and it also offers an IT room with computers and internet access.

Most customers are craftsmen, traders and farmers. These are the predominant economic activities in the region. The average loan that ADISA grants corresponds to 48% of Guatemala’s gross national income.
